Job Description

Job Contributions and Key Responsibilities

Organic Compliance and Food Safety Program

  • Ensure accurate completion of hazard assessments; provide management with necessary corrective actions and support.
  • Work closely with management (production, ranch, VPs and partners) to understand future training needs.
  • Implement established procedures to address current and anticipated food safety/organic compliance issues.
  • Liaison between state, private agencies, DSA, and the operation.
  • Collaborate in the development of procedures, work instructions and documentation review, to include updates and new regulations.
  • Supervise production and ranch management carry out the Food Safety and Organic Compliance Program.
  • Maintain open two-way communication and participate in meetings.
  • Supervise Organics and Food Safety records ensure records are maintained, updated and available.

Organic Compliance and Food Safety Programs Training

  • Implement established Organic and Food Safety training.
  • Observe organic and food safety practices in the field/ranch to ensure the proper use of process and procedures.
  • Manage training schedules. Provide training to new and existing staff, management (Production Team) and agricultural workers on the Food Safety Program and Organics program.

Regulatory Compliance/Inspections/Audits

  • Conduct audits for both Organics and Food Safety to ensure adherence to programs guidelines and policies.
  • Act as liaison and coordinator with third-party audits.
  • Collaborate with the Food Safety Management Team to facilitate resolution of non-conformities as well as submission of timely evidence reporting.
  • Deliver required Food Safety and Organics inspection reports.
  • Coordinate and lead the Organic and Food Safety Committee.
  • Supervise and review mapping for assigned farm/district.

Staff Management

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of food safety coordinators and production administrators across California
  • Provide guidance, feedback and training to ensure alignment with compliance tools
  • Oversee schedules, workloads, and field activity of assigned staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Competently juggle competing priorities and changing expectations.
  • Management of projects.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and mature business skills.
  • Communicate (verbal, listening, written, presentation) fluently and professionally in English and Spanish required. Familiarity with Mexican indigenous languages and cultures a plus.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including a professional and diplomatic demeanor.
  • Ask probing questions and gather required information.
  • Identify deficiencies in safety programs, develop and implement policies to mitigate risk.

Education Level: Bachelors Degree

Field/s of Education:

  • Pesticide Handling
  • Produce Safety Certified

Years of Experience:

3 years experience in safety in the agriculture industry

Specializations, Certifications and Specific Experience:

  • Project management experience
  • Food Safety/Organic Compliance program implementation experience
  • Working knowledge of:
  • GlobalGAP.
  • Pesticides application.
  • CCOF.
  • Microbiology:
  • Food safety.
  • Agriculture-related concepts, practices and procedures is a plus.
  • Supervisory Experience:
  • Staff management

Licenses :If driving is a necessary part of a job employees are required to possess a valid drivers license.

English & Spanish >95%

Necessary Software:

Microsoft Office Suite - Intermediate

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 75% of the time domestic (ranch to ranch)
  • 75% of time spent in field / 25% of time spent in office
  • Ability to travel to other areas (Oxnard/Santa Maria)-15%

Pay Scale: $78,500 - $87,900
